NISSAN LEAF TO CO-LEAD GOOGLE'S GFLEET

Google has purchased a number of electric vehicles to form part of its Gfleet, in a bid to develop the largest corporate EV charging infrastructure in the US, and Nissan LEAF is playing an important role in helping the global company reduce its carbon footprint.

The Gfleet comes as the latest addition to Google's green transportation infrastructure, and Nissan LEAF will form half of the initial fleet of 30+ vehicles. The company is working hard to improve its impact on the environment, and to keep up with the latest EV technologies, it has launched this car-sharing programme for Googlers.

Google's Gfleet was born in 2007 with the RechargeIT initiative, which provides Googlers with green transportation options to commute to work, while their biodiesel shuttle system provides Googlers with transport options within the Googleplex.

Over the next few years Google is looking to achieve its vision of electrifying five percent of parking spaces.

Google has recently added 71 new and faster Level 2 chargers to the 150 Level 1 chargers already installed, and will be installing a further 250 chargers. With the help of the network's charging data, the company is able to track and report the success of their green transportation initiative.

The Gfleet and biodiesel shuttle system already save the company more than 5,400 tonnes of CO2 a year – the equivalent of taking in excess of 2,000 cars off the road, or cutting down on 14 million vehicle miles every year! Google not only hopes it is setting an example for other companies to follow, but is pleased to see it has helped several of its own employees to adopt their own electric vehicles.
